College Student Mental Health

college mental health

College can be rough, but therapy can help! We offer individualized support to students struggling with the transition to college life. Accelerated biological, psychological, and social development can often generate feelings of overwhelm. During undergrad years, students are tasked with the separation from family of origin and learning how to establish their own identity and independence. Our clinicians have years of experience working with the unique issues that undergraduate and graduate students face. We often work with students from Northwestern University, Loyola University, DePaul University, Oakton Community College, and other nearby schools so are familiar with these schools’ cultures.

Issues that our college student clients frequently face include:

  • Balancing productivity with self-care
  • Managing anxiety and stress
  • Navigating academic struggles and challenges
  • Relationship challenges, isolation, and loneliness
  • Perfectionism, achievement, and concerns about career path
  • How to self-advocate, learning how to manage schedules, and prioritize tasks
  • Managing post-college life and current sociopolitical climate stressors
  • Navigating graduate school programs—including department dynamics, difficulty with finishing doctoral work, and navigating the stressors of high work expectations

For our college student clients we hope that by working with one of our qualified therapists, students will become more healthy, balanced, and improve their coping with the stressors and unpredictability of school life. We also see the importance of connection—to friends, peers, mentors, even a larger community. We hope that students find more meaning and fulfillment in their lives.

All of our clinicians at Mindful Psychology Associates hold this specialty of working with college student mental health concerns!
